About us
When you are lucky enough to live in one of the most beautiful buildings of the city, you can’t help but think about welcoming guests into your home. This is how La Meridiana d’Alba was born. We moved to Via Coppa in 2022 after living abroad for many years. Our family has always lived in the city center of Alba, so we decided that this was the best place to start a new chapter of our life, with the will and hope of carrying forward the project started by our grandfather, Giuseppe, who purchased this building in the early 1990s and gave it a new life.
THE HISTORY OF LA MERIDIANA D’ALBA
1200
La Meridiana D’Alba seems to have a very ancient history and to have welcomed illustrious people. In fact, in 1215 Giacomo Del Carretto was most likely born in what is now Via Coppa 3/B.
1500
About 300 years have passed and the owners of the house still seem to be the Del Carrettos. The current parking area was probably where the stables were located and where people gathered to trade goods.
1800
Our home is still here. This time we can see it in the Napoleonic land register: lot number 136
1994
In 1994, our grandfather, Giuseppe, saw great possibilities in this run-down building. He therefore decided to buy it and renovate it, and he reached an agreement with the municipality to make it the headquarters of the offices of the Piedmont Region. Subsequently the offices were transformed into a home and 3 extra rooms were created.
2023
La Meridiana D’Alba is born. Why La Meridiana? To remember a funny episode from the renovation phase. Grandfather Giuseppe, looking at the building, saw that one of the walls was missing something. He then asked Nannerini, a local painter, to create a sundial on the highest wall of the building. Today that sundial is still there.
